GeoNature
GeoNature is an open-source, collaborative biodiversity information system providing web and mobile tools for data collection, management, and dissemination.
Description
GeoNature is an open-source biodiversity information system developed by a collective of biodiversity stakeholders in France. It comprises a suite of web and mobile applications designed for capturing, managing, and disseminating flora and fauna data. These tools, available under open licenses, include modules for data entry, management of taxonomies and users, metadata handling, data integration from partners, data export in various formats, data synthesis, and public web portal dissemination. The system facilitates a complete workflow for managing biodiversity data, from reference data management to data synthesis and dissemination. GeoNature's modular design allows for independent deployment of its components, including web data entry, mobile data capture (OccTax-mobile), data dissemination (GeoNature-atlas), citizen science data collection (GeoNature-citizen), taxonomy management (TaxHub), and user management (UsersHub).
Features
GeoNature's key features include web and mobile data entry applications, support for various data collection protocols, robust data management capabilities, metadata handling, user and taxonomy management tools, and data dissemination via an interactive web portal. The system is open-source, fostering community contributions and ensuring long-term sustainability. It's modular, allowing for flexible deployment and customization to individual needs. Its collaborative nature promotes data sharing and standardization across different organizations and projects. It incorporates tools for synthesizing data from different protocols and generating various outputs. GeoNature is designed to facilitate both internal data management within organizations and external collaborations.
Benefits
GeoNature offers numerous benefits, including streamlined data management, improved collaboration among stakeholders, enhanced data accessibility through web and mobile interfaces, simplified data sharing with partners, standardized data formats for seamless integration, and increased transparency and data reliability. The open-source nature of the platform promotes community development and ensures long-term sustainability. The modular design allows customization to suit specific needs, and the integration with existing systems minimizes disruption and maximizes efficiency. Data synthesis features enable more effective analysis and reporting for conservation efforts. The use of open-source components reduces costs and fosters collaboration. The web and mobile applications make data entry efficient and user-friendly, regardless of location.
