About EuroStack
Welcome to EuroStack – Your Gateway to European Digital Solutions
EuroStack is a comprehensive directory of European-made and European-supported digital solutions, including cloud services, Open Source technologies, and interoperable tools. Our mission is to promote European technological sovereignty by connecting businesses, and public organizations with solutions designed to align with European values of transparency, privacy, and sustainability.
Our Vision
We envision a Europe where digital infrastructure is not only innovative but also independent and aligned with the continent's ethical and legal frameworks. By highlighting solutions that prioritize interoperability, openness, and European support, we aim to foster an ecosystem that:
- Reduces reliance on non-European technology.
- Encourages collaboration between public and private sectors.
- Advances digital commons and Open Source innovation.
More details about our vision and values can be found here.

What's the "Euro Stack"?
Based on discussions held during the "Toward European Digital Independence: Building the Euro Stack", organised in September 2024 in Brussels by Francesca Bria, Cristina Caffarra and Meredith Whittaker, and further elaboration by our inititiative and others, we define the "Euro Stack" as a vision for the European digital infrastructure focused on achieving digital sovereignty and reducing reliance on non-European technology and service providers. Key aspects of the Euro Stack include:
- Digital Sovereignty and Data Autonomy: we aim to ensure European control over data and technology, reducing dependence on foreign entities and mitigating the influence of extraterritorial laws.
- Open Source Foundation: We strongly advocate for the use of Open Source software and standards as a core component, promoting transparency, interoperability, and privacy.
- SME Empowerment: We place emphasis on empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as key players in the European digital market.
- Avoiding Lock-in: A core goal is to prevent vendor lock-in and the dominance of hyperscalers (large cloud providers) through cloud interoperability and data portability.
- Sustainability: Incorporating green technologies and energy-efficient practices into the digital infrastructure is a priority.
With the EuroStack Directory Project (this website), we aim to provide a platform that supports these goals by showcasing European and/or Open Source digital solutions that align with the Euro Stack vision, as outlined above.
Why EuroStack?
- Strategic Digital Sovereignty: EuroStack prioritizes solutions that are developed, hosted, or significantly supported within Europe. This ensures alignment with European regulations, data protection standards, and strategic interests, providing businesses with greater control and legal certainty.
- Driving Innovation Through Openness and Interoperability: We champion Open Source technologies because they foster innovation, transparency, and flexibility. Openness enables customization, reduces vendor lock-in, and accelerates development, while interoperability ensures seamless integration and data exchange across different systems.
-
Trusted, Transparent, and Secure: Every solution listed on EuroStack undergoes a rigorous vetting process to ensure it meets the highest standards of quality, security, and privacy. We prioritize transparency and alignment with European digital strategies, providing businesses with reliable and trustworthy solutions they can depend on.
- Security by Design: Open source code allows for continuous security auditing by a global community of experts, making vulnerabilities more readily identifiable and fixable, creating a more secure solution over time than proprietary code.
- Transparency and Trust: The open nature of the code used in EuroStack solutions allows any business to inspect and verify the software they use, promoting trust and accountability.
- Empowering European Businesses: EuroStack is committed to building a robust and competitive European digital ecosystem. By providing access to high-quality, sovereign, and interoperable solutions, we empower businesses of all sizes to thrive in the digital age.
How Does It Works?
We currate and categorize European digital solutions based on their relevance, features, and compliance with European standards. Users can explore listings, read detailed descriptions, and connect with providers directly to learn more.
To identify the solutions we showcase, we use various open data sets, including:
- Awesome Free / Open Source Alternatives (to common SaaS products) for Business Use - an extensive exploration of the alternatives available to businesses looking to leverage Open Source solutions.
- AFS ONE - Free Software Publisher Directory.
- Cloud Repo - The comprehensive index of cloud and telecommunication technologies made in Europe
- Awesome Free Software - Your "yellow pages" of Enterprise Free Software Publishers, their products and success cases.
- Guide des solutions open source (in French)
- SILL - Catalogue de référence de logiciels libres recommandés pour l'ensemble de l'administration ( in French)
- Comptoir du Libre - A list of free software useful to the public services as well as their users and providers.
and scout upcoming solutions through forums, social media, and direct contacts with providers.
